Greetings Tyers,
A new tying club is being formed in Central Oregon. The Central Oregon Fly Tyers Guild. We (the organizers) have put the word out and the response has been very exciting. Contact: Sherry Steele steelefly@msn.com 541-420-5532 or Rocky & Deanna Maley maleyqh@ortelco.net
Here are the details as of February 1, 2009. We had our first meeting on Dec 6th 2008.
This club will be organized as a nonprofit FFF Charter club. This means that all members must be a member in good standing of the Federation of Fly Fishers. This will fall under umbrella of the Oregon Council of the Federation of Fly Fishers (ORCFFF).
The next meeting is this Saturday 10:00AM-4:00PM February 7th at The Fly Fishers Place 151 W. Main St. Sisters, OR. This is a planning/club (FFF application paperwork) meeting and we will tie Classic Carrie Stevens Freshwater Streamers. Please RSVP to steelefly@msn.com
The 3rd meeting is scheduled for February 28th at the same location. Pattern is ? TBD.
The March meeting will a “meet and greet” to be held at the Expo in Albany on the 13th. Perhaps sit together at the Tyers Reception on Friday night.
The April 25th meeting will be the start of regular planned all day meetings to tie pre-chosen patterns.
Current information, plans and suggestions:
- FFF Charter Club
- Organizers: Sherry Steele, Rocky Maley, and Deanna Maley
- The club name is Central Oregon Fly Tyers Guild (COFTG)
- The club will be based in Sisters, OR with meeting locations in Sisters and other towns/cities in Central Oregon.
- We meet once a month on the 3rd Saturday for an all day tie. (holiday & fishing schedule can be modified as needed)
- Guild specific patterns are Freestyle Full Feather Wing Fly, Classic Salmon Fly, Spey & Dee Flies, and Ref (Forgotten Flies) Classic Patterns.
- Part of our mission is to teach the art of tying classics and to enjoy sharing tying skills.
- ORCFFF participation will be an avenue to tying these beauties and donating them as framed art to FFF clubs for their use in raising funds targeted for education and conservation projects.
- All skill levels will be welcome. Beginner tyers plus professional level tyers, everyone is welcome to join the fun.
- We will organize a teaching team for the meetings. Beginners can work at their own pace assisted by one or more advanced tyers and advanced tyers can tackle the more complex patterns.
- Facilities for the meetings will be setup to accommodate a small (at the fly shop 8 max) or large group (30+) at another location in Sisters.
- Club Dues will be discussed at the February 7th meeting.
